"Side by side by Imran Qureshi is formed of two books Moderate Enlightenment and The true Path. While one takes inspiration from an Islamic prayer book and the other from a commonplace children's do-to-do book, ideas of religious and educational instruction surround and inform each of the books. Side by side invites the reader to experience both books in relation to one another as a single book project. The True path by Imran Qureshi invites the viewer to trace the path of an invisible line by joing the numbered dots. The line meanders through an imaginary landscape that combines contemporary subject matter with the technique and motifs of the Mughal miniature painting tradition. Like children's dot-to-dot books, that use images to teach basic counting skills, Qureshi uses a sequence of dots to guide the reader along a path that although rarely straight, negotiates its way through an earthly terrain of life's physical and spiritual challenges. Siraat-e-Mustaqeem or the true path is a common Arabic phrase meaning to go straight ahead. In Pakistan where the phrase is used mainly in its Quranic context, its meaning is connected to the idea of observing a religious path, to attain spiritual enlightenment"--P. 4 of cover.
